Parasites

Videos corresponding to some parasite entries on The Loom that I liked from the last year. Amazing. Aren't we lucky that humans don't have to worry about parasites that are [quite] this terrifying?

Well, it may happen that some bees (I can't remember which ome) put their larva inside a human instead of inside an insect.

And take a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taenia_%28tapeworm%29

Wow, I thought tapeworms were limited to infecting the digestive/intestinal systems, but the Neurocysticercosis article details how the immature worms can form cysts throughout your body, including your brain/eyes/spine. You've given me nightmares before Christmas!

At least human parasites aren't bursting out of us Alien-style or turning us into suicidal zombie slaves like in the videos. I wonder if there are STDs that modify the behaviour of their human host by encouraging them to infect others; it makes a lot of sense that microevolution would lead to STDs that make their hosts extra horny.
